Zavkhan Trekking is run by John Williamson, Sam Brown, Jenya Boikov, and Otgonchimeg Burnee (Ogi), with help from our friends in Zavkhan and the Altai. John and Sam are both Kiwis, resident in New Zealand between seasons; Jenya and Ogi are Mongolian and live in Ulaanbaatar.

John first came to Mongolia in 2000, bought a horse and spent 6 months riding through this amazing country. He decided to return and bring others to share the experience. John is a member of The Long Riders' Guild, the world's first international association of equestrian explorers and long distance travellers. Sam is a very experienced horse rider, ecologist and organiser extraodinaire. She learn't her riding skills at Kowhai Riding School, near Christchurch in New Zealand. Jenya has spent many years working in the developing Mongolian tourism industry, and was joined by Ogi more recently.

The newest addition to Zavkhan Trekking is Jennifer who will be joining our team in the Altai in 2009. She is American, lives in Russia, and rides like a true Mongolian.

In the words of one of our riders "...Jen was brilliant - very calm, very chilled, but practical, very easy to get on with, and really good fun. I'm quite sure she'll do a great job next year!"

We ran our first trip to Zavkhan in 2004 with a group of friends and acquaintances, who all had a great time, and Zavkhan Trekking was born. See the pictures from these early trips here.
